Chris Johnson: Why the Tennessee Titans Star Deserves Criticism for Dumb Tweet

Say what you want about Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson, but the man knows how to keep himself in the news.

On Wednesday afternoon, the current holdout took to Twitter and said the following.

"Can these fake Titan fans STFU on my timeline I don't have a regular job so don't compare me to you and I can care less if uthink I'm greedy."

He then followed that up with this.

"If you was a real fan my tweet would not bother you it only make the fake fans upset."

Can anyone else can hear the train full of angry fans coming down the tracks?

Aside from the atrocious grammar—which we'll go ahead and blame on Twitter, not what I'm sure is Johnson's stellar East Carolina University education—there is so much about this outburst from the outspoken running back to just make your blood boil.

Is Johnson underpaid for his production relative to other NFL running backs? Yes, undoubtedly yes, a thousand times yes. Is he asking for way too much money with the $12 million per year figure that has been tossed around? Absolutely.

Johnson wants to be the highest paid running back in the NFL, and considering that he is the league's leading rusher since 2008 (4,598) he definitely deserves that.

He is currently scheduled to make $1,065 million this season, so it stands to reason the he should hold out until he gets a better deal. However, blasting fans for wanting him to get on the field and be ready for the opening week of the season is not the way to endear himself to the public.

Last we heard, the Titans were offering between $8 million and $9 million a year to Johnson, which would make him the NFL's highest paid running back. Apparently that's not enough for Johnson.

Although there has been some progress and the two sides have got a little closer to a deal, Johnson's behavior on Twitter should bring all sorts of backlash.

Frankly, he deserves every bit of it.
