Knicks Forward Carmelo Anthony Reveals He Had Elbow, Knee Surgeries in May

Carmelo Anthony was playing with a bum elbow for the Knicks in 2011, but it appears as if he's dealt with the problem for much longer than just last season.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, Anthony revealed that he underwent two simultaneous surgeries back in May on his knee and elbow to relieve troublesome pain that had lingered for quite some time.

The knee procedure was of the arthroscopic variety, while the elbow surgery was done to relieve chronic bursitis.

It was widely known that Anthony was dealing with bursitis in his elbow last season, but the knee procedure comes as somewhat of a surprise, as he never complained of any soreness or problems in the area.

However, according to Anthony, both were bothering him for seven years.

It was the first time in Anthony's life that he's undergone surgery.

Can't tell, can you? I did both of them, they were bothering me seven years.

Anthony spent much of his offseason rehabbing, and he didn't return to the court until August, where he quickly showed that the surgeries had no adverse impact on his game.

The New York forward revealed the news of his surgeries after the battle between Team Melo vs. Team Philly on Sunday night at the Palestra, but it's clear that Anthony should be just fine going forward.

Anthony also stated that he's down to 230 lbs, which would be an impressive accomplishment for him, as he was listed at 238 lbs last season.

He dropped 31 points and 17 rebounds in a losing effort at the Palestra, but the most important thing is that he came out of the game feeling healthy.

The Knicks are going to be relying on Anthony to lead the way with Amar'e Stoudemire as the team has invested heavily in him, and it's imperative that he's 100 percent if the team is going to contend.
