Dapuzzo Goes From Linesman To Scout

from Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun, Pat Dapuzzo, for the first time in his adult life, can cheer for a National Hockey League team.

The former NHL linesman has been hired by the Maple Leafs as a part-time amateur scout in the New York/New Jersey area?.

Dapuzzo?s 24-year career as an official came to a sudden and horrific end during a game between the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Rangers on Feb. 9, 2008 in Philadelphia. The Flyers? Steve Downie and the Rangers? Fedor Tyutin collided along the boards, and Downie?s skate blade came up and accidentally hit Dapuzzo in the face.

?My nose came off,? Dapuzzo said, ?and I never worked (as a linesman) again.?

Forty stitches fixed the cut, but Dapuzzo also had 10 facial fractures. Among other injuries, he was diagnosed with a concussion, which was not his first.
