It has been another outstanding season in the Association.

That being said, it doesn't make distinguishing the outstanding performers in each award category any easier.

This article looks at the predicted winners of all six NBA end of season awards.

Will Today's Massive Cricket Match Solve The India-Pakistan Conflict? (Or Make It Worse?)

india pakistan

As we write this, India and Pakistan are locked in a bitter war ... over wickets.

The two nations are facing off in the semi-finals of the Cricket World Cup, with the winner being the presumptive favorite in Saturday's final match.

It's a game so big, that ESPN.com put Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar on its front page today, probably the only time you'll see a cricket story get such a prominent placement.

And even though the countries are engaged in a heated regional rivalry as well, the prime ministers of India and Pakistan are watching the match together in the same box.

The two nations began diplomatic talks this week — scheduled before the teams learned they would be meeting on the pitch — and the invitation to watch together (extended by India's Manmohan Singh) is seen as a hopeful sign for those wishing the two sides can find something to agree on.

Does "cricket diplomacy" work? Perhaps. If the game is played without controversy, it can become a moment of tremendous good will and sportsmanship. Even one prominent Indian intellectual is pulling for the Pakistanis to win.

And after the invitation was accepted Pakistan agreed to release an Indian prisoner and allowed a Indian officials to visit Pakistan for the first time as part of their investigation of the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

However, if things go badly for one side — particularly if it involves bad officiating or allegations of cheating, as has been known to happen — the bad feeling will only get worse.

If you need help following along, check out our Beginner's Guide To Cricket >>

UPDATE: India won the match by 30 runs. They'll face Sri Lanka in the final on Saturday.

Simmer?s Weekly Puck Thoughts

From good friend of the blog Rob Simpson at MSGNetwork.com:

9) I enjoyed Rangers radio commentator Dave Maloney?s description of an NHL rookie?s first year in the League as a ?Magical Mystery Tour.? As with anyone in the first year of a new gig, there?s a lot of ?wow? and adrenaline and finding one?s way. This might best explain the sophomore slump we often see: In year two, that ?wow? effect is gone, the expectations go up, the player becomes a known commodity, and the NHL routine becomes just that. Considering this, it?s understandable that a lot of kids who light it up in their first season drop off in year two. This applies to the effectiveness of defensemen and goaltenders as well. Without ?wow,? players become aware of their confidence level?or the lack thereof.

10) The Rangers? 23 road wins this season are the most they?ve had since they had 24 back in 1993-94, the season they won the Stanley Cup.

11) The importance of winning away from the friendly confines: The top eight teams in the Eastern Conference in terms of road wins are the eight teams sitting in playoff spots.

John Wall Ejection Video: Watch Wizards' Star Throw Punch at Miami's Big Z

Sparks fly in Washington as the Wizards point guard John Wall throws a punch after catching an elbow from Heat center Zydrunas Ilgauskas in a 123-107 Miami victory on Wednesday night.

Check out the video at the 1:10 mark to catch the slow-motion replay.

In the second quarter of a one-point game, the 7'3" Ilgauskas had a mismatch on the 6'4" Wall at the top of the arc. The pesky Wall was taking multiple swipes at the ball and Ilgauskas decided to back him up with a elbow to the mouth.

Wall continued his aggressive D before a second Big Z elbow sent Wall over the edge.

An outraged Wall quickly strikes back with a punch straight to the ribs of Ilgauskas. The two get into a pushing match before cooler heads prevail.

Both players were ejected.

At the end of the video you can see JaVale McGee and Juwan Howard get into it a bit—but it's really nothing more than some pushing and shoving.

The frustrations of a season's worth of tough losses and missed expectations finally caught up to the first pick in the 2010 NBA Draft.

John Wall has done well individually this season, scoring 16.3 points and dishing out 8.6 assists a game. But his team has a grand total of two road wins as they sport the one of the worst overall records in the NBA.

My guess is that both players will get a one-game suspension from the league and life will move on.

You should never throw a punch in a NBA game, but it's crystal clear that Ilgauskas was throwing intentional elbows at the much smaller Wall.

The ole' wily vet got the best of Wall as it's safe to say the Heat would take losing Big Z if the Wiz lost Wall in return.

Let this be a lesson to the rookie...no matter how dirty the opponent is playing—never throw a punch.

MLB Preview 2011: Looking at Josh Hamilton and the Texas Rangers on Paper

Before the start of last postseason, the Rangers had never won a playoff game.  In three playoff appearances, they were knocked out in the first round each time by the New York Yankees.

After dispatching the Tampa Bay Rays in five games in the ALDS, the Rangers defeated the Yankees in six games to win the pennant.

Josh Hamilton won the AL MVP, Neftali Feliz won the AL Rookie of the Year and Cliff Lee was a postseason hero.

But now Lee is gone, so we'll see if the Rangers can get enough from their pitching staff to once again take the AL West crown.

Throughout this article, you will see a number between seven and ten beside each player.  These numbers break the players up into essential categories; here's a rough layout.

10: Best player/pitcher in baseball

9-plus: Superstar, MVP/Cy Young Candidates

8-plus: Consistent All-Star

7.5: Periodical All-Star

7.25: Solid Starter

7: Average Player

San Francisco Giants: Brian Wilson and the Craziest Giants of All Time

How can you not love Brian Wilson?

The eccentric closer gives you everything he has night in and night out and inspires his teammates with both his on and off-field performances.

From the insane beard to the unbuttoned jersey to the insanely epic one-liners, Wilson is undoubtedly one of the craziest and most successful players in the game (and Giants history). Whether he's being interviewed or warming up in the bullpen, Wilson will always provide teammates, opponents and fans with something unexpected and amazing.

Still, Wilson is not the only player in league history to provide a little wackiness alongside their play (though I would say Wilson himself is entirely unprecedented).

With that in mind, let's look at some of the players in Giants history who could have probably given the closer some tips, as well as some who probably do now.

Butler Bulldogs: This Year's Final Four Run Is More Impressive Than Last Year's

There was no doubt that last season's championship game run for Butler caught many people by surprise.

Nobody predicted that they would make the Final Four and come just a couple of inches away from winning the National Championship.

But this year's run to the Final Four is even more impressive than last year's.

Last season, we saw the Bulldogs in the preseason top 10 rankings. They won 20 straight basketball games going into the NCAA Tournament including a dominant performance in the Horizon League Tournament.

They entered the NCAA Tournament as a fifth seed. UTEP was a popular 12/5 upset pick, but Butler dismantled them 77-59. Then Murray State tried their luck against the Bulldogs, but came up short, 54-52.

Syracuse was their opponent in the Sweet 16. They defeated the Orange 63-59 to move on to the Elite Eight.

Frank Martin and Kansas State were up next for the Bulldogs. They prevailed, yet again, 63-56.

The Final Four was played in Indianapolis, IN. The Bulldogs upset the Michigan State Spartans 52-50 to move on to the championship game.

Everybody knows what happened against Duke. Gordon Hayward missed a half-court shot that would of won the game, and the National Championship.

People may not have known that Butler was that good last season, but it isn't like they came out of nowhere. They were ranked in the preseason top 10, and settled around 15 throughout the course of the season. Also, winning 20 games in a row should draw a little attention.

This season was different.

Hayward was selected in the first round of the NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz. Losing this piece to the puzzle was huge for the Bulldogs. Once he left early for the draft, it felt like nobody was giving them a chance to make another run.

But with him leaving, Matt Howard moved to the four spot and has taken more threes this season than his entire career.

This is a position that he may be more comfortable with. With the switch, Howard becomes a more versatile player which helps the team tremendously.

The Bulldogs were ranked in the top 25, but were not close to the top 10. They won their conference tournament, but tied for the regular season title with Cleveland State.

They won nine games in a row compared to 20 last season. Instead of a fifth seed in the tournament, they were given the eighth seed.

Many people had Old Dominion beating Butler in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Howard found the loose ball and laid in it at the buzzer to defeat the Monarchs, 60-58.

Butler then had to go up against a Pittsburgh team that was desperate for a Final Four appearance. They stunned the Panthers in a wild finish 71-70.

The Sweet 16 saw the Badgers of Wisconsin. The defense carried the Bulldogs to a 61-54 victory. Florida was their Elite Eight opponent.

The Gators had a double-digit lead in the second half, but the Bulldogs showed their fight as they came back to win 74-71 in overtime.

Not many people honestly believed that Butler would make the Final Four again. This team was supposed to be led by a guy who was a first round NBA talent but not much more.

This year, we have learned (if we didn't know already) that Shelvin Mack and Howard are gamers. Mack is the go-to guy down the stretch and Howard knows how to get things done on both sides of the floor.

Both will go the limits for Head Coach Brad Stevens. There are other guys on this team that fit the mold of "role players" and they fit that mold to perfection.

The number one reason why Butler is back to the Final Four is because of Stevens. He is the youngest coach, 34, to make two Final Fours. He has out-coached everybody in this tournament thus far and it could continue this weekend.

Last year, the hot topic was whether or not he would be leaving to coach a big time program. Shortly after the season, Stevens put those rumors to rest by signing an extension through the 2021-2022 season.

Butler is the new Gonzaga, but with a better and more established head coach.

Aqib Talib: At What Point Do the Buccaneers Say 'Enough Is Enough?'

Aqib Talib In Trouble Again With The Law And This Time Guns Are Involved

Aqib Talib remains a "person of interest" in a shooting incident that fortunately did not end in any deaths.

Talib allegedly fired shots at his brother-in-law in Texas, according to several media reports.

This is not the first time Talib has been in trouble with the law, and he has been in trouble on the field as well.

St. Petersburg Times columnist Gary Shelton is very blunt in his assessment of Talib.

"For a long time now, Talib has been a talented troublemaker, a walking bad decision followed by controversy and headed toward scandal," writes Shelton. "He does not hear the scolding, he is impervious to lapel-shaking, and he is beyond the benefit of doubt. The drugs in college. The fights with teammates. The assault. The suspension. And now this.

"Here's a question: Can Talib's career withstand another scandal?

"Here's another: Should it?"

Shelton goes on to point out how talented Talib is and how talented players tend to get more free passes than the less talented ones. He also points out the problem with this mindset, but we are of one mind at this point.

No other profession outside of professional sports would tolerate keeping an employee who starts fights with everyone and constantly is getting arrested. With his background, once the allegations of "shots fired" came up, he would be escorted to the door by security.

The NFL should be no different. If Talib chooses to waste his talent, that is his choice. There are plenty of other talented individuals coming into the league every year who would be happy to have his job without bringing his baggage to the table.

Talib has had his chance to reform and has chosen not to take that path. There is no reason for the Buccaneers, or the NFL, to keep tolerating this mess. It is time for everyone involved to move on.

WWE News: John Cena Granting A Lot Of Wrestlemania Wishes This Weekend

John Cena Continues His Great Charity Work By Taking 30 Children To Wrestlemania XXVII

If you have been paying attention to John Cena's feud with The Rock, you noticed that Rock constantly points out how Cena's main demographic is the children's audience. Staying true to his wrestling character, John Cena is granting 30 children's wishes this weekend.

According to TMZ.com, Cena will be taking 30 Make-A-Wish children with him to Atlanta this weekend for Wrestlemania XXVII.

"Reps from [Make-A-Wish] tell us 30 kids with "life-threatening medical conditions" from the U.S., Canada, and even Australia will attend Wrestlemania XVII this weekend in Atlanta," the report says.
"But that's not all -- the kids will be going to a private autograph session with WWE Superstars and Divas ... and afterward, they'll hit a pizza party hosted by Cena!!!"

There are a lot of fans, particularly older male fans, who don't particularly care for Cena's style in the ring, but it's hard not to like the guy when he isn't on-screen.

In his nine-years in WWE, Cena has been extremely generous with his time and charity work. The article points out that he is only one of four people to surpass 200 wishes granted - the others are Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Hulk Hogan.

Regardless of what happens in the ring at Wrestlemania XXVII this Sunday, Cena has further demonstrated why he is the biggest star in wrestling today. His work outside the ring is unmatched by anyone in the sport today.

Kudos to Cena for this wonderful gesture.

2011 NFL Draft: Is Offensive Lineman the Detroit Lions Biggest Need?

Matthew Stafford Could Benefit From Having A Few Good Men On The Line

The Detroit Lions only have five picks in this year's draft, but they have drafted well the last few years, so that should not be a huge obstacle to their success.

Head Coach Jim Schwartz recently touched on the Lions' draft philosophy in the wake of the lockout and how the organization can not get caught up in outside factors. He said the Lions just have to draft "good" players.

"Philosophically, that's what you have to do," Schwartz said. "There's so much uncertainty with everything, with free agency and the future and things like that, that you need to keep your eye on what's important, and that's keep acquiring good players that fit your system, that you have a plan for. And if you do that then you're going to be on the right track. If you're changing your plans for reasons due to circumstances, you're probably on the wrong path."

The article, posted on the Asheville Citizen-Times, is an in-depth interview with Schwartz and other members of the Lions front office.

Players that might fit the Lions' system include offensive linemen Tyron Smith and Nate Solder. Both are huge guys with tremendous upsides and would fit a big need on the Lions offensive line.

However, the Lions also need help in the secondary and with their pass rush. To address this need, the Lions have brought in Prince Amukamara and Cameron Jordan for a visit.

Good offensive linemen can be found at the top of the second round, so the Lions will have to figure out what their biggest needs are and adjust their Big Board accordingly. With only five picks, there is not a lot of room for error.

The Lions may even trade down if the guy they are looking for is not going anywhere and pick up another pick in the process. Trading down into the bottom of the first round may not be a bad thing for the Lions, especially if they are looking to take Gabe Carimi.

Once the season starts, the Lions are counting on a healthy Matthew Stafford to bring the team back into contention and make a run at the postseason.

2011 NFL Draft: Why Are the New England Patriots Targeting so Many Cornerbacks?

With the 2011 NFL Draft quickly approaching, the New England Patriots have been hard on the scouting trail.

Seemingly every day, news comes out of another player being worked out (you can find scouting reports on all of those players here and here). One of the more popular positions on those lists is cornerback, where the Patriots have privately worked out eight prospects.

Why would this be? The Patriots have drafted at least one cornerback in the first two rounds for three years straight—Terrence Wheatley in 2008, Darius Butler in 2009 and Devin McCourty in 2010.

Bill Belichick has said on many occasions that with the NFL taking a turn toward a pass-happy league, you can never have too many talented defensive backs on the roster.

Most teams, realistically speaking, want to have at least three capable cover cornerbacks on their roster. The third cornerback is often seen like a starter in many respects because that player will be on the field very frequently and will be asked not only to cover, but also to help out in run support.

With the great rookie season of McCourty, the return of Leigh Bodden and the emergence of Kyle Arrington, it would seem the Patriots are at that bench mark.

Consider, if you will, the responsibilities of a nickel cornerback. He must be able to both defend quicker slot receivers and provide a significant level of support in run defense, as he is essentially a linebacker.

The best run defender the Patriots currently have in the secondary is McCourty, who contributed to 73 tackles in 2010.

Leigh Bodden isn't a slouch, either. He had 47 solo tackles and eight assists in 2009.

The Patriots like to mix up their coverages a bit, so their versatility will go to good use, but the Patriots probably feel a bit better about their defense with those guys lined up on the outside.

So something has to be done in the nickel, unless Arrington is the solution. Arrington played well as the second corner, and has that physical nature to give support in the running game.

Whether he can carry the success from last year over into 2011 remains to be seen.

He was being beat out by Jonathan Wilhite for the third cornerback spot on the roster, until Wilhite went down with an injury.

Speaking of which, as pointed out by Kristen Shilton of Fox Hole, Wilhite hit all of his escalators and will have a base salary of $1.2 million in 2011. It's clear he's not worth that kind of money, so unless he's willing to restructure his deal, he may very well not be with the team next season.

Behind Wilhite, Butler had his share of difficulties in 2010. A second-round selection in 2009, Butler has all the athleticism to be a success in the NFL. His severe lapses in concentration in between his flashes of brilliance continue to leave room for doubt in terms of his overall development.

With that, it's easy to see why the situation is murky at cornerback. The Patriots know where the value is for what they're looking for in a cornerback, and are scouring the deep group of prospects for guys worth the pick on draft day.

I would call it nothing more than Belichick doing his due diligence.

Bill Belichick Is Not a Genius, He Is a Lottery Winner.

I've been wanting to present such an argument for a very long time.

Bill Belichick is not a genius, he is a lottery winner. I've never heard an argument over the past eleven years which changed my mind. It all started...

In the sixth round of the 2000 draft. We all know who he chose. We all know it changed the direction of the New England Patriots organization for, at least, the next decade and a half. Whether or not you like or dislike Tom Brady, you have to respect his journey and you must respect his success.

Now, is Bill Belichick really that profound of a genius? No. Nope. Nada.

He is a great coach with a great vision for his team...who won the lottery.

Let me ask you a question: if Tom Brady was injured, could Belichick will his team to greatness? Here is a list of Tom Brady's backups over the years:

2001: Drew Bledsoe, Damon Huard
2002: Damon Huard, Rohan Davey
2003: Damon Huard, Rohan Davey
2004: Rohan Davey, Jim Miller
2005: Doug Flutie, Matt Cassel
2006: Matt Cassel, Vinnie Testaverde
2007: Matt Cassel, Matt Gutierrez
2008: Matt Cassel, Kevin O'Connell, Matt Gutierrez
2009: Brian Hoyer

Drew Bledsoe was on his way out, as was Doug Flutie, and Matt Cassel is showing signs of life in Kansas City. The question remains, could the Patriots live without Tom Brady? No. He is the Patriots. I've seen the Patriots run up the score against opponents, bring in the backups, when the backups did not perform, Belichick put his starters back in the game.

He can't live without Tom Brady. He won the lottery. If Belichick was that brilliant, why did he wait until the sixth round to draft Brady? Because he didn't understand that the rookie quarterback which stood before him had a greater desire to succeed, more than he understand. Belichick got lucky. No one knew about Tom Brady because, if they did, he would've been a Cleveland Brown round 1, pick 1.

I'm not a hater, the evidence is what it is. I really do respect the Patriots and their success. Tom Brady has willed that organization to NFL greatness with and without stars on the offense. I've been a Dolphins fan since 1984. I used to hate Brady. I can't, he's too good and that must be respected (also the Dolphins have played Tom Brady very well. It's well known that Brady hates playing the Dolphins).

Belichick happens to be the coach. Tom Brady has given him job security. It's because of Tom Brady that Belichick can be creative on defense, running crazy schemes. This is easy to do when you have a Hall of Fame quarterback at the helm.

If Brady goes down, you know who takes his place? Brant Hoyer or Jonathon Crompton...

Doesn't necessarily make you dream of Super Bowls of the future, does it Bill?

VCU Basketball: Will the Rams Keep Rolling Against Butler?

VCU Basketball Makes Historic Final Four Appearance, But Can the Rams Keep Things Rolling Against Butler?

As the final whistle sounded in Sunday's first Elite Eight contest, the Virginia Commonwealth Rams celebrated the biggest win in the program's history. They had just done what many thought was unthinkable: they'd taken down the Kansas Jayhawks, the Southwest's top seed, never trailing in the second half, and secured the first Final Four berth in the program's history.

What made the feat even more remarkable was the fact that just two weeks earlier, when the brackets were announced, many pundits blasted the NCAA Selection Committee for even including the Rams in the tournament at all.

Needless to say, after an improbable run of five wins, including all four games of the actual tournament against higher seeded teams, those critics have been silenced.

Now, the Rams find themselves in a position to make even more history for this suddenly successful program, which has seen its Cinderella bids fall short in years past. With a win over fellow mid-major attendee Butler, VCU will be playing for a national title.

But can the Rams continue their run of torrid play? Few teams have been as hot shooting the ball this tournament, and few can match the Rams' perimeter attack. Forwards Bradford Burgess and Jamie Skeen create all kinds of matchup problems, while guards Joey Rodriguez and Brandon Rozell can light it up at a moments' notice.

But, this is a veteran Butler team who has been to this stage of the tournament before. They're not the least bit starstruck by the Final Four, and they have a pair of dangerous scorers of their own, in guard Shelvin Mack and forward Matt Howard. The Bulldogs are a tenacious defensive team who have the range to lock down the Rams snipers and close down in the paint while their offense is potent enough to score on the Rams' full-court press (something Kansas seemed downright flummoxed by).

In the end, VCU's improbable run from a play-in game to the Final Four is one of the best stories in recent memory in the dance. The Rams have etched their names alongside such legendary Cinderellas as 2006's George Mason squad, last season's Butler squad, and the early years of Gonzaga's mid-major dominance.

But, facing a foe who knows how to slow their high-octane attack, their Cinderella story should come to an end in the semifinals. The Bulldogs look like a team on a mission, and Mack has been unstoppable all tournament long.

Look for Butler to bring an end to VCU's tournament run.

Final Score: Butler 70, VCU 68.

Getting to Know Edward Fraser of The Hockey News

Back during the 2007-08 season, I was lucky enough to blog for TheHockeyNews.com as their Rangers? blogger. Growing up, The Hockey News was my favorite hockey publication so it was an incredible honor and pleasure to blog for their media outlet.

Today, I?d like to introuduce you to the site?s managing editor Edward Fraser. Mr. Fraser was kind enough to take time out of his very busy schedule to tell us baout how he got into hockey, how he got into working at The Hockey News, what he does at The Hockey News, the site?s future and of course, his thoughts on the current NHL playoff races.

PH: How did you get into hockey?
EF: Like every Canadian kid, I was born into the sport. I?ve been a fan as long as I can remember. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of watching HNIC on Saturday nights.

PH: Growing up, who was your favorite team/player?
EF: I was a fan of the Leafs until they traded my favorite player, Gary Leeman, to the Flames (yes, Gary Leeman). It not only shook my faith in the team, but in the sport. It took several years for me to get back to being a hockey fan after that.

PH: At what point in your life did you know that you wanted to work in hockey?
EF: From a very young age. I originally wanted to be an athletic therapist with the intention of getting a job with my hometown London Knights.

Arnold Palmer Invitational: Can Tiger Woods Finish Strong on Final Day?

Arnold Palmer Invitational Shows Tiger Woods Climbing Back Up Ranks

Tiger Woods will be going another day without a win. That being said, he continues to get back on the winning path. After a great second round in between less than impressive first and third rounds, he is finishing the Arnold Palmer Invitational on a high note.

Through 15 holes, Woods is at -2 for the day and at -3 overall, which makes him tied for 14th. While he continues to improve, it's not likely that he will stay in the top 15, mainly because his day is almost over and many around him are just starting. Phil Mickelson, also at -3 overall, has only played eight holes thus far.

More to the point, is this another disappointment for Tiger Woods, or is he finally starting to turn the corner? Unfortunately, the fact that he only had good outings on two of the four days says he's still struggling to remain the elite form we remember that he has.

Having said that, a late charge is always nice to see. Even though Woods knows he's out of it, he is able to perform well at times, and if he can get a streak going, then he will start winning again.

He will not win a slew of majors and titles without a challenge again though; if he wants a win, he's going to have to work hard and get lucky in each tournament, just like everyone else.

Hockey Concussions: NHL Players Are Suckers for Themselves

The recent spate of concussions in the NHL has prompted a question that has been occasionally raised from time to time:

What would happen if a hit were so hard that somebody dies?

What do Nodar Kumaritashvili, Steve Moore and all the recent serious NHL injured people have in common?  All are human.  All are victims.

What are they victims of?  Two things.

Physical contact.  And man's hubristic challenge to the world—that he can take anything that can be dished out and keep on going as if nothing as happened.

And still worse: No one will take any responsibility.  That stance allows the evils to continue without any second thoughts, reflective thinking or effective countermeasures.

Unfortunately, this stance has become more and more the pattern of Canadian thinking.  The poster boy is Kumaritashvili.

When Nodar crashed into a pillar and subsequently died, Canadian sports bureaucrats took the now-becoming-traditional way other Canadian bureaucrats take:  Blame the victim.

Nodar was "too inexperienced" to be allowed to compete at Whistler.

They belittled and ignored all the other more experienced lugers who said that Canada had built a too-dangerous track.  So now, with good conscience, Nodar could be returned home to Georgia in a box.

Yet for the rest of the Olympic games, lugers started at a lower level.  Why?  Could a tragedy have actually occurred?

Steve Moore was sucker-punched into the ice by Todd Bertuzzi.  Moore's career is over.  He has yet to receive any compensation.

If a union member in an industrial accident had been felled, guess what would have happened?  Not what has happened to Steve Moore.

So the reaction to the recent load of serious NHL injuries is simply more of the same ducking of responsibility and belief that man is expected to take whatever is dished out and keep a stiff upper lip.

Part of this thinking comes from playing video games or watching movies and television shows where people die, but don't really get hurt.

But man has never been able to take whatever comes and keep on ticking.

If that were the case, Adam and Eve would still be alive.

Man cannot take whatever comes in the arena or luge track any more than he can take an incoming bomb or grenade.

Speaking of bombs, the current reaction is similar to that of a bomber—drop something and fly away.  He won't see the pain and suffering he caused below.

If the attacker felt the same pain his victim did, he or she wouldn't do it.  John Wilkes Booth wouldn't have fired if he could have felt the same pain Abraham Lincoln was going to feel.

And quality doesn't matter.

When Bobby Orr was leveled by Pat Quinn's elbow in a playoff game in 1968 and knocked senseless (which you can still watch on YouTube), he was forever booed in Toronto afterward, because "he couldn't take it."

So when the NHL's current best player, Sydney Crosby, went down, there is regret that "he isn't playing," but no remorse that he is not being protected.

He's a man because "he can take it."

The NHL may never see Sydney Crosby again.  Or more likely, he'll end up like Eric Lindros, a player with an eggshell head who will be a target and get repeated concussions until he retires.

Too bad.

So the answer to the question, "What would happen if a hit were so hard that somebody dies," has been given.

Nothing.

Because if the lesson wasn't learned on the luge track, it won't be learned on the ice, either.

Picking Up The Pieces Of Your Shattered NCAA Bracket

Sad Harvard fans

How's your NCAA pool going?

Probably not very well. Most people were out of the running after the first weekend, but after last night's evening of upsets, brackets all across the country were shredded.

Three of the four games last night were won by the lower-seeded team and a popular championship pick (Duke) got obliterated. (The other loser, BYU, was a popular upset pick.)

According to ESPN.com, out of the 5.9 million brackets that were filed on their site, just 844 correctly picked the winners of all four games last night. More than 1.3 million didn't get any.

So at this point, we're only half way to the Elite 8, but two No. 1s, two No. 2s, and three No. 3s are gone. We've got a 10, a 12, and two 11s playing tonight.

How's ours? Pretty pathetic. Our champion (Kansas) is still alive, but that's about it. Maybe our worst performance ever. A few decent pick artists are still in the running to win our Business Insider pool however.

At least you can take some solace in the tumble taken by Henry Hasselbeck. Thanks to Duke's loss, the son of Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck fell from 103rd place to all the way to 662 out of ESPN's 5.9 million. Did we mention he's five years old and picked his teams based on which mascot he liked better?
