It's finally happening; Yushin Okami is getting his title shot.
He was promised a shot at the UFC Middleweight Championship after defeating Nate Marquardt at UFC 122, but the UFC elected to give Vitor Belfort a shot first.
At UFC 134, Okami will get his long-awaited crack at Anderson Silva and a chance to cement his place in MMA history by capturing a UFC title.
Many fans believe that Okami has a good chance in this fight, given his strong background in wrestling; Okami's training partner, Chael Sonnen, fought Silva almost a year ago and was almost able to win the fight using his grappling skills.
If Okami brings the fight to Silva and keeps pressure on him at all-times, he stands a chance of ending Silva's title reign and becoming the new UFC middleweight champion.
In the event that Okami does dethrone the champ, it's curious to think about what's next for him after that.
In all probability, his first title defense would be against either Brian Stann or Chael Sonnen.
Sonnen and Stann are scheduled to fight at UFC 136, in a fight intended to determine the middleweight division's No. 1 contender.
Both would be interesting fights for Okami.
A bout with Stann would be a classic wrestler vs. striker matchup and a fight with Sonnen would be a rematch, Sonnen having won their first fight at UFC 104.
However, anything can happen in the UFC and if neither Sonnen nor Stann performs impressively, the title shot could be passed along to someone else.
Chris Leben and Mark Munoz are set to headline UFC 138 and I wouldn't rule either of them out as Okami's next opponent, especially if one of them wins the fight in dominant fashion.
