NFL Power Rankings: Who Are the Top 5 Offensive Rookie of the Year Candidates?

The Offensive Rookie of the Year Award this season is going to be a very exciting race.

Since Roethlisberger won in 2004, it has rotated between a QB and either WR or RB each year. For instance, in 2009, Vikings? Rookie WR and return man Percy Harvin took home the honor, and in 2010, the Rams? Sam Bradford earned it.

This year it looks like another WR or RB will win it, especially considering the way the draft and free agency shook out.

Let?s take a look at the top five preseason candidates and their odds for this years ROY Award.

No. 5 ? Jon Baldwin ? 20/1

Baldwin is a sleeper to win the award this year. He is in a good situation as very likely the No. 2 receiver opposite Dwayne Bowe. With Jamaal Charles in the backfield as well, it looks like Baldwin will be in consistent single coverage. Matt Cassel is also one of the most efficient QBs in the league and will be able to find him.

No. 4 ? A.J. Green ? 13/2

At 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, A.J. Green has been drawing comparisons to Randy Moss. The Bengals will need their No. 4 overall draft pick to play like a young Moss if they want any chance of competing in the brutal AFC North this year.

No. 3 ? Cam Newton ? 11/2

These are solid odds for Newton, who no one is sure will even start the year with the Panthers yet. Jimmy Clausen is still QB1 on the depth chart and his performance will really affect Newton?s ability to join the ROY chase.

No. 2 ? Mark Ingram ? 6/1

Ingram is the favorite running back to win the award. He has a great opportunity in New Orleans and was the only RB even drafted in the first round this year. He should win the starting job away from Pierre Thomas sooner than later and should certainly be ahead of Chris Ivory and Darren Sproles.

No. 1 ? Julio Jones ? 5/1

Jones looked like an absolute beast in preseason and there is a reason the Atlanta Falcons jumped 21 spots in the draft to take him. Jones might be a once-in-a-generation talent and he is the clear favorite this year for the ROY Award. The Falcons went 13-3 last season and already have Pro Bowlers Matt Ryan and Roddy White in the passing game, so look for Julio to slide into the No. 2 spot there and make a ton of plays.
