Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Wenger?s Luck Ironically Governed by Unlucky Club

Thanks to a combination of injuries and the departures of a handful of big-name players, Arsenal?s season just hasn?t gotten off to the best of starts. That?s why Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is dead-set on making a move, lest the bleeding get any worse.

Credit where credit?s due, Wenger does have a couple of strong bids on the table for Rennes midfielder Yann M?Vila and Lille forward Eden Hazard, both of whom would provide relief for a club that needs it.

While both Rennes and Lille have been, shall we say, hesitant to sell, the word around the campfire is that both M?Vila and Hazard are at least willing to consider the move.

There is, however, a catch: the Gunners must first prove their quality in their Champions League play-off against Udinese on Wednesday.

This comes according to The Independent, which reports that both M?Vila and Hazard ?will wait until after tomorrow night's second leg against Udinese before deciding on a move to the Premier League.?

To clarify, this is not a case of M?Vila and Hazard politely standing nearby while Wenger and the Gunners take care of business. The report says that ?both want to play Champions League football and are reluctant to say yes to Arsenal? until after their game against Udinese.

The message to Wenger is clear: ?We?ll come, but only if your team proves it?s worth a damn.?

Because Arsenal is defending a 1-0 lead in Wednesday?s match, this is not exactly a Herculean task. At the same time, it?s already apparent that nothing can be taken for granted with this particular club. It?s just as likely to be struck by lightning as it is to win a match.

Wenger should know this as well as anyone. The funny part is that there?s not a thing he can do to help his club, as he will be forced into the stands by his two-match UEFA ban.

If you have a sense of humor, all of this should be oddly funny. If you don?t have a sense of humor and/or you?re an Arsenal fan, all of this is something else.

In a word: it?s typical.
