Detroit Lions DT Ndamukong Suh a Dirty Player for Hit on Bengals QB Andy Dalton?

When the Detroit Lions faced the Cincinnati Bengals in the NFL's first week of preseason football, Lions DT Ndamukong Suh once again laid a controversial hit on a QB.

Most of us remember when he manhandled Cleveland QB Jake Delhomme as well as the forearm jack he put on Chicago QB Jay Cutler.

To hits which, back when the NFL wasn't a flag-football league, would have been legal.

In any event, Suh maybe just has too much strength, much like when he pulled Philadelphia QB Michael Vick to the ground with one hand.

Well, it appears that Suh has become a flag target amongst the NFL's defensive line, and his hit on Cincinnati rookie QB Andy Dalton doesn't help his case.

As for Suh, he's not going to slow down, and he has good reason not to.

In an article by Pro Football Talk's Michael David Smith, Suh loves being aggressive on the field:

"It’s the reason people play football; aggression is the name of the sport,” Suh said. “It means being violent and being very aggressive and getting after the quarterback. That’s what you are known for. That’s what you do. If you didn’t do that then I don’t think you’d be playing football in the NFL. . . . That’s the way I’ve been taught and that’s the way I will continue to play.”

If you ask me, he's not a dirty player.

What he is, however, is and old-school defensive lineman that despises opposing QBs like David Deacon Jones, Mean Joe Green, Doug Atkins and Jack Youngblood.

They all played the game very hard and very aggressive, so there's no reason why Suh should be any different.

He even backed up his own case with a thorough explanation to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News:

He said it's easy for people to see the replay in slow motion several times and make a judgment.

"But if I am out there at full speed hitting you, and you still have the ball," he said, showing how he saw Dalton with the ball in his right hand, not in any kind of throwing motion. "If you have it like this, you aren't throwing it. Most quarterbacks will tuck it or they will pull it back or throw it away. He still had the ball when I hit him."

Keep playing hard and dominating, Mr. Suh, because watching you is a treat for fans that love defense.

And as the saying should go: "It's on like Ndamukong."
