While the idea of fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. may scare most welterweight boxers, Victor Ortiz isn?t afraid of what Mayweather will bring to the fight.
Ortiz is ten years younger than Mayweather and he has the speed and stamina to stay with Mayweather throughout their fight and his power will be more than Floyd would have ever expected.
After reading all of the reports that he had no shot against Floyd Junior, Ortiz has trained harder than he ever has to defend his WBC World Welterweight Champion against Money Mayweather.
Ortiz told Boxing Scene about worrying about Floyd Mayweather Jr:
You know what, Floyd is a good fighter. But, I've never thought he was great; ever since I was a kid. You know when you're a little boy, you sit back and you say, 'Wow. That guy's good. That guy's great.' Oscar was one of those for me. Mosley was definitely one of those for me. Bernard Hopkins was one of those for me. In his prime, Zab Judah was one of those for me, And Floyd, not in his prime, not in his come up, not in his anything, he's ever been that to me. So, I'm definitely not impressed for one, and I'm not a person who's going to hold any kind of respect like those 41 other victims.
These are big words from the young man, but as a boxing fan around the same age as Ortiz, I feel the same way about Floyd Mayweather.
Mayweather never fought great opponents and when he did fight legends, they were over the hill. I?m not saying that Floyd Jr isn?t a great fighter, but he never had to prove it on a regular basis in a tough division like the fighters Ortiz mentioned.
Ortiz is the defending champion in the fight and the much younger man, and while the edge goes to Mayweather in experience, Ortiz will beat Junior and hand him an unexpected first loss.
