BCS Standings: Why Stanford Will Leapfrog Boise State and Clemson in Week 9

What more does Stanford have to do to earn the respect of the BCS computers?

Not only is Boise State, whose signature win for the season is over Georgia, still ranked ahead of the Cardinal, but so is Clemson.

The surprisingly unbeaten Tigers hold a .0116 difference while Boise State sports a .0178 difference over the Pac-12 favorite.

That will all end this week though.

Four of the six computers actually rank the Cardinal eighth or worse overall while the coach's and Harris polls have them ranked third and fourth respectively.

Enough is enough.

Not only has Stanford demolished every opponent placed in front of them, but they've covered five spreads over 20 points.

The team isn't squeaking by in any way, shape or form; they are simply dominating their opponents week in and week out.

This week the Cardinal will finally get the bump they need to pass, at the very least, Clemson if not Boise State as well.

Stanford travels to the Coliseum to take on a 6-1 USC Trojan team coming off a huge win at Notre Dame.

The Cardinal still have to take on the Irish in the season finale, and still have Oregon on November 12, but this should be the game to finally bump them ahead in the computers as they wait to see if any Big 12 or SEC team can run the table.

Boise State travels to Las Vegas to take on arguably the weakest team on their schedule in UNLV.

A week after escaping with a win over Air Force and moving up, the Broncos will get what they deserve this week and move down.

As for Clemson, they take their average schedule on the road this week to Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets are 6-2 but losers of two straight; that doesn't help Clemson's case much at all.

The Cardinal haven't gotten the respect they deserve and waiting until the Oregon game to give it to them is pointless. Clemson started the season nowhere near the top 10 and the one impressive win on their schedule is on the road against Virginia Tech.

A win over USC is the the next step for the Cardinal.

Once and for all, it should be the step that moves them past the likes of Clemson and Boise State.

If the BCS wants to avoid controversy it needs to start recognizing the difference in teams that great and teams that are very good.
