Blackburn Rovers supporters are planning another protest on November 5 as the campaign to oust the hated Steve Kean hits a new level. This time Venkys will also face the wrath of the blue and white hordes.
There have been protests at the last three home games, and the visit of Chelsea on Bonfire Night will see the heat well and truly turned up.
This time around the protests prior to the match will take place INSIDE the stadium. There will be 45 minutes of protesting before kickoff,
Following this, the atmosphere will hit an acidic level like never seen before—90 minutes of nonstop protesting in front of the owners, who are apparently planning to attend.
Then there will another protest following the match similar to the last two home games.
No doubt there will be desperate calls from the players to concentrate on backing them.
Unfortunately, the protesters see no other option.
Yesterday, rumours spread that Kean will be offered a new five-year contract, and this has been backed up by the Daily Mail. I'm shocked by this. I would have expected Venkys to offer a lifetime contract to their "brilliant" manager. Many fans have promised they will not set foot in Ewood if this happens.
Personally, I don't think Kean will be fired before the Newcastle game on Wednesday, or any time soon for that matter. He has to be the most powerful, incompetent manager in Premier League history. There are reasons why he has retained his position and it certainly isn't related to the recent poor form. Since those particular allegations can't be proven despite the increasing whispers, they can't be printed here.
I could write a book on the amount of public and whispered rumours I heard yesterday alone.
Speaking of the Newcastle game, nothing major is being planned. The League Cup is hardly seen as a major priority right now given the precarious league position. I'm one of the people who would normally consider it a priority as it is not beyond any Premier League team to win a cup competition.
I have no doubt, however, it is beyond Kean.
The Norwich game will probably be similar to the QPR game as far as the fans' support goes.
Sunday's clash with Tottenham did not hit the same vitriolic heights as the Man City game. For once, Kean was right to state it was a good performance, but clinical finishing was the difference.
Chelsea, meanwhile, lost at Queens Park Rangers. They will play in the "Champions" League away to Genk in midweek, but that hardly promises to be an enthralling, physically demanding contest.
How often do Chelsea lose two Premier League games away from home in succession?
I've been critical of Rovers fans in the past (and rightly so), but as far as the protests go they have my 100 percent backing. For the first time in a long time I feel like we are all on the same page. Just a shame it has taken such drastic circumstances.
I just wish the previous owners (who hopefully will get the hatred they deserve once the whole truth comes out) had received similar treatment.
Even getting rid of Kean would not spell an end to the problems Blackburn Rovers potentially face.
