If you’ve been keeping up with the NFL through the first four weeks, you have probably taken notice of the bloated passing numbers.
The four highest passing outputs of any weekends in the NFL were set during the four weeks of the 2011 season. It’s hard to make a difference on the ground if the quarterback is dropping back to throw 40 times a game.
However, defenses won’t continue to be torched all season and more pass protection will be applied as the season goes on. Arian Foster got back into the swing of the things by handling 30 carries for the Houston Texans and gaining 155 yards.
The number of feature backs in the NFL is reducing as time passes, but there are still some in the league.
Here are three RBs that will have a huge fantasy impact in Week 5.
3. Ahmad Bradshaw (New York Giants):
Ahmad Bradshaw shares some of his carries with Brandon Jacobs, but he gets the brunt of the workload for the most part. The main reason he’s on the list is the New York Giants inferior opponent; the Seahawks.
The Giants should dominate the game against Seattle, and allow Bradshaw to wear out the Seahawks defense on the ground.
If the Giants dominate possession, they’ll score an easy win.
2. Darren McFadden (Oakland Raiders):
Darren McFadden is the best back in the league this year. He leads the league in rushing with 468 yards and the Raiders are one of the most impressive 2-2 teams in the league right now.
McFadden has the rare blend of power and speed that most backs wish they had. His development in Oakland has been evident, but he had to deal with mediocre play by the rest of the team for a while. Now, the team is on the same page and everything is clicking.
McFadden is a must-start every week this season.
1. Adrian Peterson (Minnesota Vikings)
I’m sure Adrian Peterson has heard some of the murmurs around the league about how good Foster and McFadden are. He heard those same whispers about Chris Johnson, but has maintained his sole status as the best back in the league.
In his last game, Peterson was contained for 80 yards on 23 carries and didn’t reach the end zone against the lowly Kansas City Chiefs. His next opponent is the Arizona Cardinals.
With the Minnesota Vikings looking for their first win of the year, Peterson will do whatever it takes to make that happen.
