NFL Draft 2011: San Diego Chargers Must Strike Gold After Awful '10 Draft

Following a Disastrous Draft Last Year...Chargers Need to Nail First Pick

The Chargers were a disappointment in '10 in large part to a atrocious performance by their rookie class.

How bad was the lack of production?

San Diego Tribune columnist Kevin Acee gives you the gory details:

"No NFL team got less out of its draft picks in 2010 than the Chargers.

Four of the Chargers? six 2010 draft picks stuck, but just two played even one offensive or defensive snap. Those two ? Ryan Mathews and Cam Thomas -- participated in a total of 370 snaps, the lowest total for any team?s drafted rookies last year."

This is really going to hurt the Chargers down the road unless they get a great player at No. 18.

The Chargers are not far off from returning to the postseason and should draft a senior that has enough experience to step in and contribute right instantly.

DE Cameron Jordan fits the bill.

The former Cal star has the ability to become a stud for the Chargers with his combination of size, athleticism and intelligence. He ran a 4.71 40 after weighing in at 287 pounds at the recent NFL Combine.

He will adapt quickly and provide instant positive production. A terrific player against both the run and the pass, he combines length, pass-rush skills and instincts with superior athleticism for his position.
