NFL Draft 2011: New York Giants Target Reinforements Up Front

Ingest the chatter online regarding the Giants' draft plans and you'll discern two main areas at which the team needs improving: linebacker and offensive line.

Former UCLA linebacker Akeem Ayers seems to be the trendy pick, but a poor showing at the Combine last month has left some room for doubt as to whether he'd justify such a high selection. Ayers is versatile, capable of playing in either a 4-3 or 3-4, but he seems a step slow at times, and at least one Giants loyalists has expressed concerns about his ability shed blocks at the point of attack.

The safer pick may be an offensive lineman.

Boston College tackle Anthony Costanzo has been mentioned as NFL-ready, fully capable of stepping in right away. Same goes for Mike Pouncey, who, should he be available, would provide some insurance at guard and center, where starter Shaun O'Hara has undergone surgical procedures on both feet in the last two months.
