LeBron James: Why LeBron Isn't the Key to Miami's Title Hopes

LeBron James Might be Miami's Best Player, But the Heat's Title Hopes Ride On Someone Else's Play

Miami Heat superstar LeBron James is still very much a part of this year's MVP conversation in the NBA, thanks to his stellar play.

James has averaged 26.5 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7 assists this season with the Heat, and has been a crucial factor in their success to this point. But, if the Heat are going to achieve their goal, stated at the start of the season it won't be because of LeBron.

Instead, it will be the play of Dwyane Wade that will ultimately define the Heat's postseason hopes. Why? Simple: Wade is this team's heart and soul. He's the emotional leader, the crunch time scorer, the guy the Heat can count on to score.

Want proof that Wade's fortunes directly correlate to Miami's? When the Heat win, Wade averages 26.6 points per game, 6.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists and shoots 53 percent. When they lose, Wade averages just 23 points, 6 rebounds 4.2 assists and shoots a much less impressive 42 percent.

The Heat need Dwyane hitting in order for them to win games. LeBron is going to get his stats no matter what, while the Heat have won games when Chris Bosh is struggling. But Wade? He needs to be firing on all cylinders this postseason for Miami to beat the Bulls in the playoffs.

Plus, given his success in the clutch, you'd want Wade hot at the end of a game, even if he wasn't that important to this team.

When he and James find a rhythm, Miami can be incredibly tough to stop. But, when he's not feeling it, or he's out of whack with King James, this team is in trouble.

So, for anyone looking for the best way to beat the Heat this postseason, the answer isn't all that tough to discern. Sure, stopping BronBron is important, as is keeping Bosh from going off. But, the most essential part of any strategy to beat this team is to keep D-Wade off his game. He might still score, but if you force him out of rhythm and make him take bad shots, you'll probably like the results on the scoreboard.
