Jim Calhoun: Should Hall of Fame Coach Really Return to UConn Huskies?

Jim Calhoun to Go Out on Top After Adding Another Championship to His Resume?

On the heels of maybe his greatest coaching job ever, Connecticut Huskies coach Jim Calhoun now has a choice: to step away from the game he?s loved for so many years with three titles to his name, or battle through a three-game suspension in 2011 amid recruiting infractions.
Calhoun is 68 years old now, has had a marvelous career, and has accomplished pretty much everything he set out to.
He?s won over 850 games and been inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
And he?s become one of the most respected coaches in the game?s history along the way.
But the perception people have of him could take a hit if he remains for another season, similar to what happened to NFL quarterback Brett Favre when he returned after an impressive 2009.
There are already whispers that former UConn recruit Nate Miles is open to talking to NCAA investigators regarding the improper benefits he received from Huskies former team manager Josh Nochimson, and he has already told the New York Times that Calhoun knew of this.
That could mean a stricter penalty for Calhoun next season, possibly a longer suspension, not to mention the full story of what happened at Connecticut back in October 2008.
He finds himself in a similar position as Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel, who admittedly knew of his players selling memorabilia in violation of NCAA rules but never told the school or the NCAA and now faces a five-game suspension.
But if Calhoun really feels like he has a couple more years in him, he will coach a couple more years.
He?s not the type of person that will just lie down.
His passion for the game could trump all the warning signs ahead.

For Clint Feuerbach's take on if Calhoun will stay at UConn, go here.
