2011 Kentucky Derby Favorites: Will Dialed In Triumph at Churchill Downs?

Dialed In Tops Among 2011 Kentucky Derby Favorites

There's really not all that much to go by when it comes to betting on horse racing.

For most serious betters, it comes down to things like past success, breeding, jockeys, trainers, and so on. For the rest of us, clever names oftentimes enter the equation.

One way or another, we all play the odds. And with the 2011 Kentucky Derby just around the corner, it's time to acquaint ourselves.

Courtesy of Bodog.com, here are the 11 horses with the best odds to come away with a victory at Churchill Downs on May 7:

1. Uncle Mo 5/1

2. Dialed In 7/2

3. Nehro 10/1

T3. The Factor 10/1

5. Archarcharch 12/1

6. Jaycito 14/1

7. Toby's Corner 15/1

8. Mucho Macho Man 18/1

T8. Soldat 18/1

10. Midnight Interlude 20/1

T10. Pants on Fire 20/1

While the above list will tell you how much money you could make off of each horse, it is not necessarily indicative of the true favorites. For that, the Associated Press has their own list of the Top 10 horses you should keep an eye on at the fastest two minutes in sports.

Courtesy of WTVQ.com:

1. Dialed In

2. Mucho Macho Man

3. Toby's Corner

4. Uncle Mo

5. Archarcharch

6. Nehro

7. Pants on Fire

8. Midnight Interlude

9. Soldat

10. The Factor

So why are these two lists to so different?

Well, Uncle Mo did not have a very good showing at the Wood Memorial two weekends ago, as he finished in third place. The word round the campfire is that Uncle Mo had a gastrointestinal infection, which is something that tends to stick out like a sore thumb with less than a month to go until the Kentucky Derby.

Dialed In, on the other hand, is suddenly a trendy pick. He's won three of four starts, and he just so happens to have a Hall of Fame trainer in Nick Zito.

As for Mucho Macho Man, his rise has a lot to do with his third-place finish at the Louisiana Derby in late March. Pants on Fire finished first in that race, and Nehro finished second.

We still have a little more than two weeks until Derby Day, so there is still plenty of time for all of this to change. Keep your ear to the ground.
