2011 NFL Mock Draft: What Will Fallout of Carson Palmer Demand Be for Bengals?

2011 NFL Draft: Palmer's Trade Demand Complicates Cincinnati's Off-Season:

Carson Palmer believes that his time is over in Cincinnati. He's put the the matter of how in the Bengals' hands by demanding a trade with the threat of retirement. Is Palmer bluffing? Will Cincinnati call his bluff? If he isn't bluffing, should another team pursue him?

If football isn't important enough to Palmer to put up with whatever discontenting situation exists in Cincinnati, what says it will be important enough anywhere else? Don't think that prospective trade counterparts won't look into that.

If Cincinnati is able to move Palmer, it will definitely be in need of a quarterback. Drafting one at fourth overall would bring in either Blaine Gabbert or Cam Newton. Neither appear like they will be ready to start come the beginning of the 2011 season.

Bringing in a veteran?like they did with Jon Kitna after drafting Palmer?to hold court while a rookie works out the kinks of learning the pro game could keep the Bengals competitive in the meantime. This is especially true when considering that Gabbert and Newton spent their college careers in the shotgun. Moving under center is another new thing to get comfortable with.

Trading for a new quarterback might be Cincy's best move. Kevin Kolb is on the market as could be Donovan McNabb (if the Bengals want to pay that salary). This would free the Bengals up to draft for another need. Say A.J. Green to play wide receiver.
