WWE Survivor Series 2011: Why John Cena Must Screw Over The Rock

In what promises to be one of the biggest Survivor Series matches in recent memory, The Miz and R-Truth will take on the team of John Cena and The Rock, who will team up despite their scheduled match against each other at WrestleMania.

The match will be The Rock's first since 2004, making it a spectacle that few wrestling fans will want to miss. Ultimately, though, I don't believe this particular bout will serve as anything more than a build-up toward The Rock and Cena's clash on April 1.

Because of that, I think that it is imperative that Cena screws over The Rock in the match, leading to a win for Awesome Truth. As a fan of The Rock, I would usually prefer for him to be made to look strong, but Cena is the one who needs to get the rub in this instance.

It feels odd to say that somebody has gotten the better of Cena, but since The Rock began feuding with him ahead of last year's WrestleMania, that is precisely what has happened. Not only has The Rock owned Cena in terms of promos, although that is my personal opinion, he has also looked better in a kayfabe sense.

That truly began at WrestleMania when The Rock restarted the WWE Championship match between Cena and The Miz which had ended in a double count-out. The Rock made the match no disqualification and no count-outs, and promptly delivered a Rock Bottom to Cena, allowing The Miz to retain.

This meant that The Rock struck the first major blow in the feud. He and Cena agreed on a match the following night, but since then The Rock has largely been absent from WWE programming until this week.

On Monday night's edition of RAW, The Rock once again got the upper hand on Cena. Following a promo between Sunday's four combatants, The Rock and Cena began to beat down Truth and The Miz. The Rock delivered a thunderous Rock Bottom to Truth, and Cena was about to give Miz an Attitude Adjustment.

Just as Cena was about to do that, though, The Rock pulled Miz off of Cena's shoulders and executed another Rock Bottom before leaving the ring. This was simply a continuation of The Rock's one-ups-manship over Cena.

Now, heading into Survivor Series, The Rock has gotten the better of Cena on virtually every occasion. Not only that, but the majority of the WWE fan base is in The Rock's corner as well. Because of that, Cena needs to make a big move on Sunday.

That isn't to say that Cena needs to turn heel, rather he needs to use heelish tactics against The Rock. The Rock most certainly isn't a heel, but he screwed Cena over at WrestleMania. Cena needs to return the favor in this match by either walking out on The Rock, or attacking him at some point.

Again, this doesn't have to lead to a heel turn, and I don't think it will, but it will give Cena some momentum and perhaps add some edginess to his character that has been missing for quite some time.

The WWE can't possibly head into WrestleMania without allowing Cena to get a shot in at some point. The result of the match is basically meaningless, so a loss wouldn't hurt either Cena or The Rock. Because of that, now is the time to put a tally in Cena's column in terms of this rivalry.
