Tyler Bray Injury: Matt Simms Must Step Up While Tennessee's Star QB Is out

With ESPN reporting that Tennessee Volunteer's star quarterback Tyler Bray will be out at least four weeks with a broken thumb on his throwing hand, back up quarterback Matt Simms has so step up in his absence.

With Bray out, it means the Vols will miss out on his stellar play so far this season with 1,328 yards and 14 touchdowns thus far this season.

In his short appearance in Bray's place yesterday, Simms completed 4-of-6 passes for 39 yards.

Although Simms will be starting for the first time this year, he is no newcomer when it comes to starting at QB.

Simms started eight games for the Vols last season and threw for 1,460 yards on 113-of-195 passes with eight touchdowns and five interception, but will be looked upon to play up to the level Bray did so far this season.

With Tennessee sporting a 3-2 record, they have a tough slate ahead of them, and will be in danger of not making a bowl game with Simms taking snaps for the Vols.

With big games against No. 2 Alabama, No. 15 South Carolina and No. 10 Arkansas as the toughest spots on the remaining schedule it looks like the Vols will have to rely on beating Middle Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Kentucky to play their way into a bowl.
