New England Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez is set to make his return from a knee injury, but his role will be limited and he shouldn't be considered a starter.
For all you fantasy nerds asking: Hernandez should play, but wouldn't expect much impact. Won't know for sure until inactives.
Hernandez has completed just two games, but he has still totaled 14 catches for 165 yards and two touchdowns.
However, Hernandez is part of a very effective two-headed tight end attack at New England and there is no need to rush Hernandez back into the offense.
Fellow tight end Rob Gronkowski is second on the Patriots with 18 catches this year. He has 296 yards on those receptions and five touchdowns.
Hernandez's limited role means that Gronkowski is definitely a front-line TE starter.
He should have a huge day. Football Outsiders ranks the Jets as just 22nd in the NFL in guarding tight ends. They have allowed 65 yards per game to tight ends.
It will be worth keeping an eye on Hernandez in this game. See if the Patriots look to him at all in the passing game and see how fluidly he is able to run his routes.
Hernandez will likely be back in the swing of things soon and if he looks decent in this game then you can reinsert him into your lineup next week.
