March Madness 2011: Is Derrick Williams Destined to Lead Arizona to Greatness?

March Madness 2011 Is Underway And It Could Be Derrick Williams' Breakout Moment

Pac-10 basketball hasn't exactly gotten a lot of mainstream love heading into the NCAA Tournament, but don't be shocked when you hear the name Derrick Williams.

When Arizona takes the floor this week, Williams will jump off of your screen. The kid is simply NBA ready at this moment and he will be taken early in the NBA draft this summer. Williams is the top player for the Wildcats and he dominates by using his extreme physical gifts to impose his will on opposing defenses.

He's built a lot like Carmelo Anthony, but is a much more of a presence on the inside on both sides of the ball. Williams averages 19.1 points per-game and even chips in 8.1 rebounds as well. Williams' Wildcats drew a five-seed in the tournament and will take on a scrappy Memphis team in the first round.

Despite the potential for an upset, I see Williams pushing Arizona into the second round and beyond. Texas is a team that looks shaky at best heading into the big dance and the West region is a very weak bracket and is there for the taking. I hope we get to see Williams take on Duke in the Sweet 16, because that would just be an awesome matchup.

Williams certainly has the potential to be the breakout star of the tournament and lead Arizona on a run that a lot of people didn't see coming. But when he goes off this week and beyond, don't be surprised in the least bit.
