Now that Floyd Mayweather has defeated another quality opponent in Miguel Cotto, the only thing left for him to do in his extraordinary career is to fight Manny Pacquiao in the bout every sports fan wants to see, regardless if you don't follow the sport of boxing that closely.
There's not much more, if anything, Money May can do to prove he's ready for the challenge that fighting someone like Pacquiao presents. He's 43-0, he's defeated some very talented fighters and he's one of the best boxers of all time.
The pressure is on Pacquiao to put his reputation on the line and fight Mayweather because Money May has nothing to lose by not fighting. Pacquiao is the only fighter who could ruin his perfect record.
If Pac-Man isn't willing to fight Mayweather in the next few years, then he will look like a coward. Money May's legacy will always be solid, but Pacquiao needs this fight to cement his place among the very best fighters of all time.
If Pacquiao doesn't want to fight Mayweather, then Money May should just retire from the sport as the undefeated champion, and that's certainly not a bad way to go out.
At this stage of his career, there is no reason for Mayweather to risk his perfect record against anyone but Pacquiao.
At the end of the day, these two men need to sit down and figure out a way to make this fight happen. Not only do both of them need this fight, the sport badly needs it as well.
Mayweather has become one of the best athletes of our generation, and one of the most successful boxers of all time.
If Pacquiao isn't willing to challenge him, then Money May should retire as one of the best, and a true champion.
Pac-Man is the only opponent Mayweather should fight for the remainder of his legendary career.
