The career of former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz got back on track tonight when he scored a beautiful submission over 205-pound prospect Ryan Bader. Just when Dana White was specifically quoted as saying that a loss would lead to the immediate firing of Ortiz, the “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” answered in a big way.
For a man who has not won a fight since 2006, Tito Ortiz looked amazing tonight. Patiently waiting to strike on the feet, Ortiz took the center of the Octagon and never looked out of control.
His experience showed when he took a punch from Bader and was able to bounce away without taking any follow-up damage. He then answered with a big punch of his own that floored “Darth” Bader.
The “old” Tito Ortiz would have probably tried to finish the fight with strikes, but the revitalized Tito Ortiz used his experience in the cage to land a few shots to open Bader up but then slap on a picture-perfect guillotine choke.
It looked for a second as if Bader was going to somehow survive the choke even though it was in very deep, but as Ortiz cranked back, the highly touted prospect was forced to tap, giving Ortiz his first victory in nearly five years.
After the fight, an emotional Ortiz thanked the Fertitta brothers, not Dana White, for keeping him in the organization.
Love him or hate him, Tito Ortiz is here to stay.
Haters gonna’ hate, but this night belongs to the Huntington Beach Bad Boy.
