Interview with Rookie Will Rackley of the Jacksonville Jaguars

In keeping with my rookie profile segment, I have interviewed Will Rackley of Lehigh University for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was selected in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft this April. Rackley said, "being picked by a team in any round is an amazing feeling."

When asked what being a Jaguar means to him, Will Rackley told me, "It means I get to be a part of a great organization in a great city."

That is great news for fans of a team in rebuilding mode.

Furthermore, in continuance with the Jaguars high character theme, Rackley is a player that puts an emphasis on bringing his best every day. Jaguars personnel believe he can come in and contribute at left guard early and that he may be a candidate to replace Brad Meester at center. Meester is 34 years old and will be playing his 12th season in 2011.

I asked Rackley what drives him to attain these types of goals and he said, "I just chalk it up to hard work and wanting to be the best. I just let the rest fall into place and am open to helping the team any way I can."

The Jacksonville Jaguars have almost completed a rebuild of the offensive line. At left tackle and right tackle they have Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton, respectively. They were the first and second-round picks of the 2009 draft. Uche Nwaneri has solidified the right guard position and with Rackely at either left guard or center, the Jaguars need to find another young cog.

Will Rackley attended the rookie symposium hosted by the NFLPA in South Florida at the end of June. He said, "It was a good experience. It was good to get a lot of great information from current and former players."

The most important things he learned came from Herm Edwards and Plaxico Burress. Edwards preached the "Rule of One," meaning owning only one car, one house, etc. Plaxico Burress emphasized eating well and taking care of their bodies by getting good sleep.

Also, concerning Roger Goodell's attendance at the symposium, Rackley said, "His presence didn't really change my outlook of the lockout."

He's just ready to go, and so are we.
