Trade rumors involving the Toronto Maple Leafs seem to be a staple in the hockey world. There have been an abundance this offseason, particularly of late involving the Leafs acquiring Tampa Bay forward Steven Stamkos.
Then, Stamkos re-signed in Tampa. The next rumor has Tampa forward Ryan Malone headed to Toronto.
The Hockey News via the Toronto Sun put these rumors to rest, citing Malone's salary hit, his no-movement clause and Tampa's roster.
Additionally, Malone just had surgery on his shoulder. Initial reports claimed that Malone would miss four to six months while recovering, but the Lightning announced that those rumors are false and that the forward will be ready by training camp.
Malone's recent surgery could be another reason that a Malone trade will not happen, as teams might be wary of an injury-prone player who is coming off offseason surgery.
The bottom line: Malone will remain in a Lightning uniform in 2011-12.
