Dallas Mavericks: Rudy Fernandez Leaving NBA for Spain?

Rudy Fernandez could be on his way out of the NBA. According to ESPNDallas.com, Fernandez was offered a six year, $26.1 million deal with Real Madrid of the Spanish ACB league. This would make him the highest paid player ever in Spain.

The deal works like this, Fernandez would play with Real Madrid if the lockout goes into the NBA regular season and once the season is back on, and Fernandez would finish out his “last” NBA season and head back to his homeland of Spain.

Look at it this way; the proposed six-year deal amounts to about $4.35 million a year. But Fernandez would only make $2.2 million next season with the Mavs.

It is kind of a win/win/win for Fernandez, he has the job security and wouldn’t really have to worry about when the lockout ends, he would make more money and he’s heading home to his native Spain.
