2011 British Open: It's Nice to Be Good, but It's Great to Be Lucky

Darren Clarke earned his Claret Jug. He had been tortured for about 20 years of entry into the Open Championship, and it finally paid off.

Clarke struck the ball beautifully, had a one putt for every two two putts, and won because of it.

But Darren Clarke may have had Lady Luck on his side as well. Clarke drew the perfect set of tee times for three straight days.

Clarke drew midday for Thursday, giving him decent weather for a majority of his round, much more bearable than the morning tee times saw.

Friday Clarke drew early, when the wind was calm for the early going, enabling a front-nine 33.

And of course, from there Clarke had the last tee times of the day. Saturday started off a bear, with Tom Watson's 72 being impressive.

The pack was separated and pared down to only a select few within five strokes of the lead. By the time Darren Clarke finished, however, it was sunny. Not to say it wasn't tough, but it certainly wasn't as big a challenge.

Everyone knows the Open Championship is reliant on weather because links golf courses rely on the wind to make them a challenge. When there is none, St. Andrew's is a simple golf course, shown last year for a decent majority of the tournament.

However, this year the weather was howling at times. Most of the time Darren Clarke wasn't out for it. He earned his Open Championship with a little boost as well.
