Rafael Nadal: Why Rafa Remains Vulnerable at 2011 Wimbledon

Rafael Nadal Not a Sure Bet to Repeat?

Everyone expected Rafael Nadal to get through his third round match on Saturday against Gilles Muller of Luxembourg, even though the first two sets were hotly contested. Rafa managed to eke out an 8-6 win in the first tiebreak and a 7-5 score in the second breaker. Nadal bageled Muller in the third set, upping his level of play while the man from Luxembourg saw his level plummet.

In the early going, however, Muller, world ranked No. 92, gave Nadal everything he could handle before Nadal could pull back on the reins.

The Majorcan?s potential fourth round encounter with Juan Martin del Potro, however, might present even bigger problems because the big Argentine brings the heat with certainly many more weapons than Nadal?s third round opponent could muster.

Rafa, with the most difficult draw of the four top seeds, saw things ease a bit with the premature exit of the No. 31 seed Milos Raonic when the Canadian slipped on the grass and could not continue play. Muller, on the other hand, proved to be no cupcake.

With de Potro in his path followed, perhaps, by Tomas Berdych and then Andy Murray??a repeat championship is a long way from guaranteed.
