Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been accused of racism on more than a few occasions, which makes his latest action all the more puzzling.
Sterling took out advertisements in the Los Angeles Times offering free tickets to 1,000 underprivileged children in celebration of Black History Month.
It's confusing as to why Sterling is choosing to celebrate Black History Month in March as opposed to February, and also a bit telling that he seems to assume that all of the underprivileged children will be black. That has led some to question Sterling's motives.
LarryBrownSports.com speculates that this is purely a public relations stunt by Sterling. The theory is that since kids aren't the biggest consumers of the newspaper, many of these tickets will go unclaimed. And even if they are, parents must still buy their own tickets and pay for food and parking.
We don't know if Sterling thought this through that carefully, but it is ironic that a man that has demonstrated distaste for other races would be making a big deal out of Black History Month.
