from Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe, • Before the start of free agency, Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli said he would examine the post-July 1 trade market. So far, there hasn’t been much that’s caught Chiarelli’s attention. On a 1-10 scale, Chiarelli termed his trade chatter between 1 and 2. “It’s really quiet right now,” Chiarelli said. “I’m not forcing anything. I’m happy the way the roster is right now. Going forward, it doesn’t mean I won’t look to improve the team later or in the fall via trade. But right now, it’s really quiet.” Several lower-revenue teams have inquired about acquiring Tim Thomas’s $5 million annual cap hit to reach the floor. But those teams will likely wait until the next collective bargaining agreement sets the new cap floor (currently $54.3 million). If and when the Thomas interest kicks up, the Bruins would seek a conditional draft pick. One of the conditions would hinge on whether Thomas changes his mind and plays in 2012-13.

• Two ex-Canadiens still on the market: Mathieu Darche and Jaroslav Spacek. Darche is a bottom-six forward who can move up in the lineup when necessary. He has seen regular shifts on the penalty kill and isn’t afraid of skating in the danger areas. Spacek, wheeled from Montreal to Carolina in the Tomas Kaberle salary dump, could be a bottom-pairing defenseman who could see some power-play time. Spacek is known for his humorous approach and uplifting presence in the dressing room.
