Greg Schiano didn't hide anything after his rookies went through a heavy sweat session Thursday at One Buccaneer Place.
He wants Mark Barron in camp, and Buccaneers.com captured his moments after practice.
"He (Barron) is missing repetitions and a rookie, especially a rookie who we are counting on," then Schiano hesitated, thought about it then declared, "I am hopeful he'll be here soon."
Barron is already being counted on to start at strong safety, and Schiano said that the other rookies also have a great opportunity in front of them.
"There's great opportunity (for the rookies), the veterans don't have a big head start in this specific scheme," he said, referring to the entire new offense and defense that is being installed for the Buccaneers.
Schiano also gave a look forward to next week when the veteran players report. "By all accounts, everyone's going to be here and ready to go," Schiano said. That would include Brian Price, who was sent back to Los Angeles to work out on his own, and Amobi Okoye, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee.
Speaking of Price, Schiano was asked about the reported confrontation between Price and Barron during offseason workouts. "I'd rather not," he said when asked to comment on the incident. "Somehow it got out. I'm not thrilled with it."
While he wasn't thrilled with the question either, he didn't duck it.
It was a hot day on the field, and it was a chance for the rookies to experience the heat. "If it's 90 out there," Schiano said, "it's 110 in that helmet."
Next week, when the entire team comes in, that should turn up the heat a little more.
