Detroit Lions Draft Talent Rather Than Need, Grabbing Potential Stars
The Detroit Lions needed a cornerback at some point in this draft, yet didn't select one. They also needed offensive line help, and didn't grab that until day three. Despite this, many say they had an amazing draft.
The additions of Nick Fairley and Titus Young make the Lions D-line and wideout groups very dangerous, but Fairley is a one-year wonder that is far from a guaranteed star, so saying he's a steal is not right. Adding Mikel Leshoure as a complement to Jahvid Best was a great move.
From me, they get a B+. They got great value for their picks, but I don't like the Fairley selection as much as others do. Also, so many teams passed on cornerbacks in the draft that they could miss out on the free agent group.
Mel Kiper actually gave them his best grade, an A-. He noted they didn't help their needs much, but he gave them an A+ in value. Rob Rang gave them an A-, noting that five picks kept them from having an elite draft, and Pete Prisco gave them a B+, saying they should have went with defense instead of Leshoure.
WalterFootball broke the mold, giving them a C+ and noting they were probably the only ones that didn't like the draft. They liked most of the choices though with the clear exception of Nick Fairley.
