The Chicago Cubs and Kerry Wood are close to reuniting, according to multiple reports, including one from ChicagoNow.com.Wood and the team that originally drafted him way back in 1995 are working toward a deal that would bring him back to the Windy City just three years after he left.
The hard-throwing right-hander came through the Cubs' system as a starter and stunned the baseball world in 1998 when, at age 20, he struck out 20 hitters in the fifth start of his career.
A series of injuries eventually forced Wood to convert to relief in 2007, and he's had a bit of rebirth since then, racking up 62 saves since 2008 and serving as a setup man for the Yankees after a trade deadline deal sent him from Cleveland to New York.
