Joe Louis isn?t long from an appointment with the wrecker?s ball, and there are so many ties to the Motor City and its rink among Canucks players you need an octopus?s eight arms to list them all:
? Ryan Kesler needed upwards of 60 tickets for friends and family.
?It?s Christmas so everybody?s home. It?s always fun, I have a lot of fond memories here.?
Kesler?s first memory of the Joe is Joey Kocur chasing him around at a team/family skate when he was about eight. As he spoke, Little Caesars players were filing into a nearby dressing room, just like he did when he was part of that Mike Ilitch-sponsored development program.
?It?s still early in the season, but it?s a good measuring stick. They?re above us in the standings and we?re going to try to catch them.?
? For the Sedins, it?s facing boyhood friend/rival Henrik Zetterberg.
?They?ve got a lot of Swedes, so it?s special,? Henrik said. ?We grew up playing against Zetterberg since we were 11 or 12. ... We?re good friends and he?s a great player. For us, it?s a good measuring stick to play against him.
?And just the atmosphere, even though the last two years the crowd maybe hasn?t been like it has before. It?s still a great building. The history here is unbelievable. You look up in the rafters, it?s pretty impressive.?
