2011 NFL Draft Grades: Grading the Jacksonville Jaguars' Draft Picks

2011 NFL Draft Grades Focus in on the Jacksonville Jaguars

Coming into the draft, everyone said the Jacksonville Jaguars needed a pass rusher.

Looking back on Jacksonville's draft class, there isn't one pass rusher in the entire bunch. When you come out of a draft and don't address your most glaring need in favor of a quarterback in the first round, one that is going to sit on the bench behind entrenched starter David Garrard, you clearly have no grasp of what you're doing.

It was a stunning failure by a team that was so close to making the playoffs last season. Jacksonville could not pressure the quarterback last year and almost every mock draft had the Jaguars going with a defensive lineman in the first round.

Not only did Jacksonville take Blaine Gabbert, but the Jags traded up to do so. It made no sense and it just got more puzzling afterward as the team continued to ignore the defensive line, but did take two cornerbacks later in the draft.

I don't know if Jack Del Rio told him that not even the best cornerbacks can cover opposing receivers forever if there's no pass rush. If Jacksonville was trying to get over the hump and win the AFC South, they didn't show it in this draft.

In fact, the Jaguars looked like a team building for the future as opposed to winning right now.

These are the types of drafts that can cost you your job.
