The Atlanta Hawks are set to host the Los Angeles Clippers Friday night at Philips Arena. The Hawks can earn the season sweep with a win, as they beat the Clippers 107-98 in Los Angeles back on Jan. 2.
Our NBA spreads have the Hawks favored by 7.5 points over the Clippers with the total set at 195.5.
The Clippers ended their nine-game home winning streak with a 106-88 loss to the Bulls on Wednesday and will now try to improve on their miserable 3-15 road record.
Atlanta was able to beat the Raptors 100-87 on Wednesday but is just 3-3 in its last six games, having alternated a loss with a win. Atlanta is 13-2 in its last 15 games at home after starting the season just 3-5.
The Clippers' latest loss to the Bulls might have cost them another starter. Baron Davis hurt his back in that game and is listed as questionable against the Hawks. Davis has been a huge reason why the Clippers have been able to continue to compete without Eric Gordon.
Another guy who has helped out in that regard is Blake Griffin, who had 32 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists against Chicago. Griffin went 14-of-26 from the field but was just 4-of-13 from the free throw line.
Ryan Gomes added 16 points, Randy Foye put in 14 and Davis dropped 10 points. No other Clipper scored in double figures, and it's going to be hard for this team to win if they don't get more production out of these guys.
The Hawks are hoping that Joe Johnson can keep up his strong play of late. Johnson had 37 points and eight assists in the win over Toronto and is averaging 29 points over his last five games.
Josh Smith helped out with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Maurice Evans and Al Horford each contributed with 12 points. Horford also finished with 14 boards and seven assists.
Atlanta won despite a quiet night from Jamal Crawford off the bench. Crawford had just seven points on 2-of-6 shooting but has the ability to score 20 on any given night. The Hawks will also welcome back Marvin Williams, who was suspended the last two games after getting in a fight.
I think there is no question the Hawks have the edge to win this game, and with the uncertainty surrounding Davis for the Clippers, I think you have to lay the 7.5 points on Atlanta in this one.
