Marian Hossa: Chicago Blackhawks Star Returns to the Ice

Is there a big, collective sigh of relief coming from the fans of the Chicago Blackhawks?

Finally—after the ferocious hit from Raffi Torres in game three of last years playoff series against the Phoenix CoyotesMarian Hossa is back on the ice.

CSN Chicago's Tracey Myers first reported the news and shared that Hossa was out on the ice Tuesday, skating amongst a couple of Blackhawks coaches. Included on the ice with Hossa was strength and conditioning coach for the team, Kevin Delaney.

Hossa is a key player for the team if they plan to once again return to NHL supremacy and win the Stanley Cup.

Other than Jonathan Toews, Hossa may be the best all-around player on the 'Hawks roster. He plays hard in all ends of the ice and many times is the first forward back to help out the defence on the back check.

Whether it is killing penalties, playing on the power play or during even strength time—Hossa is always a factor.

As important Hossa is on the ice for the Blackhawks, it is more crucial for the team to make sure he is 100 per cent healthy to play again.

There would be nothing worse then Hossa rushing back to get into a hockey game—either here in the NHL, or somewhere else while a lockout is still ongoing. If his injury was then aggravated, and forced him to sit out a greater amount of time, it would be devastating.

Hossa, who scored 77 regular season points last season, is under contract with the 'Hawks until the 2020-21 season. As great as it would be to see Hossa back playing, there is a lot at stake for the future.

Nobody wants Hossa to become a risk to obtain a concussion with every hit he takes—even though he could now be more susceptible to them anyways. Skating and pushing himself is fine, but he needs to use the time the lockout is giving him to make sure he is in great health.

Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago says that "hossa looked to be working out on a high level on Tuesday, skating hard in drills in what was about an hour-long session."

Everything from his offseason progression, right up to today's skate all point in the right direction.

Hossa is one of the few players who are the heart and soul of the 'Hawks. His effort and skill in both ends of the rink will be a welcomed addition back to the team—whenever the NHL gets going again.

No matter what, hearing he is back on his skates is great news for any Blackhawks fan.
