Earlier this month, veteran Formula One driver Rubens Barrichello was left out in the cold when his ride with the Williams F1 Team was given to Bruno Senna.
Rubens, who has been in Formula One for nearly 20 seasons and has 11 wins on his resume, is still not ready to hang up his helmet. The good news is that it appears he has another opportunity, and this time it's on the other side of the Atlantic.
Thanks to his close friend, IndyCar driver Tony Kanaan, Rubens is participating in a two day test with KV Racing Technology in Sebring, Florida to help develop the brand new Dallara DW12 IndyCar.
Right now, the team is saying this is just a test to get Rubens' feedback on the new car. However, there are already rumblings that if he wants to drive in IndyCar this year, then the seat next to Kanaan is his.
According to Speed, Barrichello has admitted that a full time switch to IndyCar is possible, but he also promised his wife that he would not drive on oval tracks.
It is yet to be seen if he will get her blessing. We really hope he does and comes to IndyCar next year. If he does, he'll be following in the footsteps of drivers like Nigel Mansell and Emerson Fittipaldi, both of whom saw great success in the USA.
But for now, check out this video of Rubens taking a hot lap of the Sebring Circuit (via YouTube):
