NFL Playoff Picture: Patriots vs. Jets and Other Dream First-Round Matchups

The NFL playoffs is one of the best events of the sporting world. You could match up this year's Indianapolis Colts with the Jacksonville Jaguars and I would be glued to my seat.

No matter who plays, crazy things always seem to happen.

With that being said, there are still some matchups that I might want to see a little more than others. Here's a look at three that stand out in particular.

New England Patriots vs. New York Jets

Hey, it wouldn't be the playoffs if Bill Belichick didn't match up with Rex Ryan in what has become one of the most heated rivalries of the past few years.

The Patriots have dominated the Jets so far this season, but of course, that means the Jets would probably win in the playoffs. That just seems to be how this series has gone lately. Whatever you don't expect to happen will inevitably happen.

That's why it's so good. That's why we want to see these two giants clash one more time.

As it stands right now, we would get our wish. The Patriots are currently third in the AFC and would match up with the second wild-card team, which is, conveniently enough, the Jets.

Game on.

Detroit Lions vs. San Francisco 49ers

You may remember the battle of the Jims earlier this season. Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz and San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh really got into it after the 49ers knocked off the Lions in Week 6.

Chances are the two would behave themselves if they met up again, but it's the playoffs and tensions are high. You never know what could happen. Heck, you might even see more than a slap on the back.

The Lions are currently the second wild-card team in the NFC, so they hold the No. 6 seed.

The 49ers would have to fall below New Orleans to grab the No. 3 seed, but a meeting with Pittsburgh on Monday night might just be enough if the Saints win out.

Denver Broncos vs. Baltimore Ravens

I want to like Tim Tebow. I really do. But I just haven't been impressed with his ability to throw the ball and I have a feeling that's going to come back and bite him in the rear.

But hey, he seems like a stand-up kid and I would love for him to prove me wrong. So I thought to myself, who would I like to see Tebow face in the first round of the playoffs?

Why, the best defense in the AFC, of course.

It's pretty clear the Broncos won't catch any of the other division leaders, so they are pretty set at the No. 4 seed.

That means Baltimore needs to fall from its current No. 2 spot to No. 5. Sounds tough, but the only thing that needs to happen is Pittsburgh has to win the North.

Pittsburgh's remaining schedule is quite a bit easier than Baltimore's, so it's more than possible.

If that happens, and if Tebow manages to beat Baltimore on the road, consider me a believer.

Please let it happen.
