One of the only schools who still has to find a head coach for its football team is Penn State. The university is trying to snag some big name coaches but the odds of them actually coming to Happy Valley are incredibly slim after the Jerry Sandusky scandal broke.
One of those coaches is Nebraska’s Bo Pelini.
The Harrisburg Patriot-News reported earlier on Monday that he was “in contact” with the Nittany Lions.
That paper has been one of the best when it comes to the Sandusky trial, but the credibility of this report seems skeptical at best.
Pelini has adamantly denied the report saying there is “nothing to” it. Nebraska athletic director Tom Osborne has also stated that he has not received a call from Penn State.
Either the report is a lie or one of these two guys is lying. With the state of Nebraska and Penn State football as they are, the latter seems much more likely.
In order for Osborne to be telling the truth, Pelini would have had to call PSU by himself and not tell anyone about it.
He was considered as a candidate for the open Miami job last season, but there are few jobs in the country that are better than Nebraska. The Huskers are rich with tradition and their fans are quite possibly the most loyal of any school in college football.
They aren’t in an ideal location so recruiting can sometimes be a problem, but the administration fully supports the team and Pelini has already had great success with more on the horizon.
He would have to be crazy to consider another Big Ten school in complete disarray better than his job at Nebraska.
