The 2011 NBA free-agency period begins on December 9th, and many agents are working hard to get their clients not just top dollar, but also to a winning team.
With all the change taking place in the league, it's easy to see that the new trend is to sign with top-notch teams, even if it means taking a little less money.
You have to respect that; in this day and age it seems like many athletes only care about money.
So when elite players take less hoping it will lead to more wins, it's a great sign they're in it for the love of the game. After all, everybody wants to win a championship at some point in their career.
The new CBA will have a great impact on a number of teams, but it doesn't change the fact that there are plenty of places that will excite the top free agents.
With that said, here are the most enticing teams for the 2011 NBA free agents.
The designated player rule will have a big affect on how the Bulls approach free agency, but they're still one of the top teams for a good amount of free agents.
The Bulls were pretty much a player away from reaching the NBA Finals last year, which is why they need to be active on the free-agent market. Adding a solid shooting guard will take pressure off of Derrick Rose, who was basically playing two positions last year, hence the MVP award.
It will be difficult to bring in players because of the hefty contracts Chicago already has, but if owner Jerry Reinsdorf is willing to pay the luxury tax, it could greatly benefit the Bulls.
Chicago has a chance to go far in this shortened season, but it has to be a key component in free agency. Players will flock to them because playing with Rose will make them even better.
With a new head coach, life in LA is certainly going to change. However, the fact that the Lakers play in such a popular and famous city will help attract free agents next week.
Add in the fact that these new players would have the chance to play with Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum—assuming they don't try to trade him.
The Lakers need stronger depth, and even though they collapsed in the postseason last year, they're still a very talented team that has what it takes to win another championship.
Again, the luxurious lifestyle of LA will bring players in, as well as the chance to contend for a title right away.
With two top-five players on the roster, plus Chris Bosh, the Heat will always be an enticing team. Getting the chance to play with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade immensely increases a player's shot at winning a title.
The Heat don't have a ton of money to spend, but they'll likely use the amnesty rule to cut Mike Miller, which will free up some space to make moves. It was evident last season that the Heat needs a better bench, and they will set out to achieve that in this short offseason.
Miami should have easily won the title last year, but with a few new additions during free agency they will remain favorites to win it all this season. Adding a legit big man to get a better post presence will strengthen the roster and make life easier for the stars on the team.
