2011 NBA Draft Lottery: Who Should the Minnesota Timberwolves Draft 1st Overall?
Let's pretend that the Minnesota Timberwolves won the draft lottery and hold the first selection in the 2011 NBA Draft. Which player will improve their team the most based on their needs and weaknesses?
That player is Kyrie Irving.
Irving is an explosive player who will ignite the Timberwolves offense which is already loaded with young athletic players such as Michael Beasley and 2011 NBA Most Improved Player award winner Kevin Love.
Irving is a scorer and a playmaker, and will make everyone around him better in the NBA.
He is also a good perimeter defender, and defense at the guard position was a weakness for Minnesota last season.
Irving will be able to help the Timberwolves on both ends of the floor, and will utilize the team's young and athletic talent effectively.
Many point point guards have been drafted in the top 10 picks in the last few drafts, and many of them have turned into very good pros.
The T-Wolves have drafted two point guards recently, Jonny Flynn and Ricky Rubio, and Rubio is still playing in Spain.
Irving is too good of a talent to pass up when scoring and the point guard position is a weakness on your basketball team, and Minnesota cannot afford to screw up another high draft pick.
