New York Yankees officials are flying to Arkansas Wednesday to meet with free agent pitcher Cliff Lee, reports MLBTradeRumors.com. The contingent includes general manager Brian Cashman, according to the New York Post. There are a number of teams interested in talking to Lee about his future major league home, but the Yankees are considered the front-runners. And their inclination to hop on a plane to Arkansas just goes to show that they are anxious and willing to spare few expenses. Other potential suitors are the Rangers, Cubs, Red Sox, Angels, Dodgers, Phillies, and even the Astros to name a few.
Lee was 12-9 last season with a 3.18 ERA and made 13 starts for the Seattle Mariners before being traded to the Texas Rangers for their playoff push. He pitched masterfully in the first two rounds of this year's playoffs before being torched in two starts against the San Francisco Giants in the World Series.
Apparently those two poor starts will not adversely affect his ability to command a massively lucrative contract.
