It's About Time for Twins' Ron Gardenhire

Ron GardenhireSo it turns out the sixth time is a charm for Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. Five times a runner-up in the American League Manager of the Year voting, Gardenhire finally got over the hump in 2010, beating out Rangers skipper Ron Washington for the award.

I was happy to take part in finally giving it to him. Gardenhire is one of the most well respected managers in the sport. His tactics have at times come under fire. His inability to get the Twins past the Yankees in the Division Series the last two years had some reactionaries questioning his job security.

Clearly, he's doing something right.

Since he took over in Minnesota in 2002, Gardenhire has guided his team to the postseason six times, usually with a few stars, a ton of role players and a modest payroll. Torii Hunter and Johan Santana have given way to Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau. Gardy has been a constant.
