Tiger Woods' third round at the Memorial Championship was far from encouraging, but despite the fact that he shot one over par, he still has a shot to take the tournament with a strong performance on Sunday.
In fact, I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm convinced Woods isn't far removed from putting on a dominant display from week to week. He's right on the cusp of greatness, and knowing his drive for success, he isn't going to be content until he reclaims his spot atop the golfing world.
Back to the Memorial, Woods wasn't the only golfer to struggle with the windy conditions out on Muirfield Village Golf Club on Saturday. In fact, there were only 14 golfers to shoot under par out of the 71 contestants in Round 3.
Woods' round began with two birdies on the front nine, on No. 1 and No. 7. He was in full control of his irons into the greens, hitting his distances on the button more often than not. Then, after the turn, Woods' round began to unravel when he bogeyed four of the final nine holes while making a single birdie at No. 13.
Frustration was etched onto his stoic face the entire back nine, and the apex of his misfortunes occurred when some unruly fans yelled during one of Woods' backswings, causing him to mishit his ball badly on hole No. 15, a par five. Thankfully, he was able to recover for a par.
His round ended on a sour note, as Woods bogeyed No. 18. Nevertheless, Woods has a chance to redeem himself by getting back on track tomorrow. If the course played anything like it did today, a round of minus-three or minus-four could win him the tournament.

Woods isn't quite at the top of his game, but he's not far off. His confidence is building, despite his numerous setbacks, and I expect him to come out on fire to start Round 4 tomorrow.
He'll be in the second-to-last group tomorrow, so if he does start lighting up the scoreboard, leader David Levin and his playing partner Rory Sabbatini will be hard-pressed to maintain their nerves.
Woods isn't out of the Memorial just yet. He's just getting started.
