4 Smartest MLB Franchises

They are the smartest franchises in the majors. Please step back and take in all their grandeur.

First, a couple of ground rules for how we have come up with the “smartest” ball clubs in a group of some very gifted teams.

Any mention of payroll used the list for 2012 at USA Today. Getting wins on the cheap is very important in our assessment, but, as you will see, it’s not everything.

Just because a team is miserly, though, doesn’t mean they will make it on this list. Our first team up makes it rain better than any other ball club, but they are willing to do so to satiate the fans. Their ability to contend every season means they get the call-up on this list.

Who am I to fault the rich and very successful?

The rest of these teams are simply sound, from top to bottom and from the field to the stands.
