As the Dallas Cowboys failed to perform in their season finale against the New York Giants, future Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens took to Twitter to poke fun at the absurd notion that he (once the Cowboys’ most productive player) must be to blame for the team failing to meet expectations:
“@RealSkipBayless Let u tell it, I was the problem!! Wht's the excuse now???”
I’ve actually joked that it must be the Ghost of Terrell Owens that is so disruptive; the locker-room chemistry suffers to this very day.
Despite becoming the most productive receiver in the history of the Dallas Cowboys, it must have been T.O.’s fault that the Cowboys failed to execute in the first half of Sunday’s 31-14 loss to the New York Giants.
Still, ESPN’s Skip Bayless must have (I’m assuming) felt it necessary to respond to the valid point made earlier in the evening by taking to Twitter to post his unsubstantiated response:
“Someone please remind @terrellowens the Cowboys won division and playoff game w/o him 2 yrs ago. Who's he play for now, the Allen Wranglers?”
Must someone remind Bayless that Owens does not play for the Allen Wranglers?
Was his sly remark meant to be a slight to Owens, or just an insult to the IFL?
Classy as always.
Regardless, Skip continues to master the art of “sounding right” as the foundation to substantiate arguments he creates with himself.
Actually analyzing the context of what made the 2009 Cowboys different from the 2008 Cowboys? Apparently not at the top of Skip’s to-do list.
So I’ll do the research for him:
The Dallas Cowboys ranked 21st in rushing in 2008 (10th in YPC).
They ranked seventh in rushing in 2009 (second in YPC).
The Dallas Cowboys ranked 20th in scoring defense in 2008.
They ranked second in scoring defense in 2009.
Now the difference in results?
A 9-7 team won two more games to become an 11-5 team; woohoo (yeah, I said it).
They “won a playoff game,” which was great. Although it was only eight days before being beaten down by the Vikings 34-3 on national television the following week.
I’m sure it was the Ghost of Terrell Owens that accounted for the Cowboys underwhelming rush support and defense in 2008.
I see, after the Cowboys exercised themselves of their productive touchdown machine, their defense started to remember their playbooks again.
That makes total sense!
Skip Bayless should be commended really. “Sounding right” in favor of actual substantiation is the most effective way to prove your point.
The masses may believe you because they’re too lazy to think for themselves as they foolishly put stock in the opinions of anyone sitting behind an ESPN counter.
But that doesn’t open the door for you to attempt nonsensical trash talk.
