The first opportunity to watch the Eagles play in 2012 is completely and utterly meaningless. Aside from a few individual accolades that could be achieved, there isn't any substance to this game.
The Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins square off to finish their schedule while rivals from Dallas and New York battle for a division title.
A game like this can be tough to analyze and predict because who knows what players show up and try to win a game that means nothing?
As disappointing as the Eagles have been at 7-8, they absolutely just gave at least three games away. If they pull out just two of those, they are standing at 9-6 with an inside track at the NFC East crown.
Unfortunately, what happened, happened. The Eagles will go home no matter what.
On paper the Eagles are just flat-out better than the Redskins. The Eagles' Achilles' heel as been turnovers. The Redskins give the ball away just as much.
Offensively, the Eagles are better in every phase and at every position. They score 24.1 points per game to Washington's 18.5.
On the defensive side, the Eagles rush the passer better, stop the run better and allow one point fewer per game.
Neither team really has an advantage in special teams.
Ultimately, this game comes down to which team wants it more. Clearly, Michael Vick wants to win. His will enough should propel Philadelphia to a New Year's Day victory. Also, LeSean McCoy is an avid defender of head coach Andy Reid, and he will be ready to go to battle for his leader.
Jason Babin and Trent Cole are looking to pile up their sack totals, and cornerbacks Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie are motivated to show what they can do as a tandem. That should spell a disaster for Rex Grossman.
The one area of concern for the Eagles is the outside linebacker pair of Brian Orakpo and Ryan Kerrigan. The two have combined for 14.5 sacks and six forced fumbles this season.
This game means nothing to either team, so the difference is the superior talent level of players like Vick and McCoy over the likes of Grossman and Evan Royster.
The crowd at Lincoln Financial Field will likely be a subdued bunch, but they will see the Eagles take home a relatively effortless victory.
