A brawl between Xavier and Cincinnati on Saturday resulted in eight players being suspended. But the stiffest punishment may be yet to come as an Ohio prosecutor confirmed that his office is investigating the fight.
Joe Deters, a prosecutor from Hamilton County, Ohio, released a statement saying his office will determine if criminal charges are "appropriate."
Cincinnati forward Yancy Gates received the longest suspension (six games) after he was seen punching a Kenny Frease.
There is precedent for athletes being charged with assault for actions during games. One of the more famous incidents occurred in 2004 when Todd Bertuzzi of the Vancouver Canucks was charged with assault after sucker-punching another player.
